A Bern Loft That Works Hard and Feels Good

Stockhorn Loft occupies the upper floor of a well-maintained residential building on Aarestrasse 49, a quiet street that runs parallel to the Aare river in one of Bern's most accessible neighbourhoods. At 90 square metres, the apartment has the proportions of a proper home rather than a compact holiday let — generous ceiling heights, wide-plank flooring, and large windows that bring in steady Swiss daylight without drama.

Elevate Schweiz

The building sits roughly midway between the Bundeshaus and the Lorraine district, meaning guests can walk to the federal parliament, the Rose Garden, and the Bear Park in under twenty minutes, while the main train station at Bern Hauptbahnhof is reachable in roughly the same time on foot or in minutes by tram. The surrounding streets are residential and calm, lined with mature trees and low-traffic roads that make arriving by car genuinely pleasant — an unusual quality for a city-centre address. Free on-site parking is included with every stay, removing one of Bern's few minor headaches.

The loft is managed by Elevate Schweiz GmbH, a hospitality company with a straightforward philosophy: well-maintained spaces, honest communication, and no unnecessary friction around arrivals or departures. The apartment is kept to a consistent standard, with quality linens, a fully equipped kitchen, and reliable high-speed internet. Nothing is left to chance, and the setup suits both leisure guests exploring the Swiss capital and professionals who need a functional base between meetings.

Bern itself rewards slow exploration. The arcaded sandstone walkways of the Zähringer Old Town — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — are genuinely one of Europe's more impressive medieval streetscapes, and the Aare loop that encircles the peninsula offers swimming in clear glacial water during summer months. Stockhorn Loft places guests at the edge of all of it, with the comfort of a private space and a parking spot waiting when they return.

A Day at Stockhorn Loft

You arrive on Aarestrasse and pull directly into the designated parking space — no circling, no fees, no app. The building entrance is clean and well-lit, and the loft is on the upper floor where street noise fades to a low murmur. The door opens onto a wide open-plan living and kitchen area with high ceilings and warm artificial light already set to a comfortable level.

In the morning, light comes through the main windows at a low angle. You make coffee in the fully equipped kitchen and eat at the dining table while looking over the rooftops toward the ridge of the Bernese Alps on clear days. The Aare is a ten-minute walk, and in warmer months the river path fills with locals heading to their preferred swimming spot. You join them or continue on foot toward the Old Town, passing under the first of the medieval arcades on Kramgasse.

Afternoons in Bern move at a particular pace. The covered walkways make window-shopping and wandering viable in any weather. The Kunstmuseum, the Einstein House, and the Bundeshaus terrace are all within a compact radius, and the Rose Garden above the Bear Park has a direct view over the entire Old Town peninsula. By mid-afternoon you are back at the loft, which holds a comfortable temperature year-round, and the sofa is wide enough to actually stretch out.

In the evening the neighbourhood quiets early by city-centre standards. Restaurants on Aarbergergasse and in the Lorraine district are within walking distance, and the tram connects quickly to any corner of the city. You return to find the loft exactly as you left it — calm, well-proportioned, and free of the minor irritations that accumulate in smaller or less carefully managed spaces.
