Elevate Schweiz › Schaffhausen
Contemporary apartment living on Neustadt, steps from the medieval old town and the Rhine.
The R Apartment Randen sits on Neustadt, one of Schaffhausen's most characterful streets, in a building that reflects the city's tradition of solid, unhurried craftsmanship.
Neustadt 2 — Where Old Town Character Meets Quiet Modernity
The R Apartment Randen sits on Neustadt, one of Schaffhausen's most characterful streets, in a building that reflects the city's tradition of solid, unhurried craftsmanship. The street-facing facade belongs to the architectural language of the old town, with its painted guild houses and arched passageways, while the interior has been finished to a clean contemporary standard — light walls, straight-lined furniture, and materials chosen for their durability and restraint.

Schaffhausen itself is one of Switzerland's most underappreciated cities. The Rhine runs along its northern edge, and the Munot fortress watches over the rooftops from the hill above. The old town is genuinely walkable — the medieval Fronwagplatz market square, independent bakeries, wine bars, and the Museum zu Allerheiligen are all reachable on foot within minutes. The Randen, the low mountain ridge that gives this apartment its name, begins just beyond the city limit and is a well-marked trail destination for day walks.
Accommodating up to four guests, the apartment is suited to couples, small families, or two colleagues travelling together. The layout provides enough separation between sleeping and living areas to make a multi-night stay comfortable rather than cramped. Natural light moves through the rooms across the day, and the quiet residential character of Neustadt means the nights are genuinely restful.
Elevate Schweiz GmbH manages the property with a focus on reliability and clear communication. Arrival is straightforward, the linen is hotel-grade, and the practical details — internet, heating, kitchen equipment — are handled without fuss. Schaffhausen is also an excellent base for day trips: the Rhine Falls at Neuhausen, the wine villages of Hallau, and the German border town of Stein am Rhein are all within half an hour by car or regional train.
Light interiors, Neustadt streetscape, and the old town of Schaffhausen just beyond the front door.
Reliable broadband internet throughout the apartment, suitable for video calls and remote work during extended stays.
Equipped with hob, refrigerator, kettle, toaster, and cookware. Guests can prepare breakfast and full meals independently.
Full bathroom with shower, hand soap, and hotel-grade towels. Towel refresh available on request for stays over three nights.
Fresh linen provided for all sleeping configurations. High-thread-count cotton sheets laundered and pressed between every stay.
Central heating throughout the apartment keeps the interior comfortable across all seasons, including Schaffhausen winters.
Electric kettle and coffee-making equipment provided. Guests should bring preferred coffee or tea for the first morning.
In-building or in-apartment laundry access available, practical for guests staying several nights or longer.
Smart TV with streaming app access. Log in with your own accounts for Netflix, YouTube, and other services.

Keybox or digital entry system allows flexible arrival without needing to coordinate with the host in person.
The principal sleeping room is finished in light tones with clean-lined furniture and blackout capability. Space for two adults with luggage, and a wardrobe providing ample hanging and shelf storage.
A second sleeping room configured for flexibility, suitable as a twin or double. Quiet outlook, with enough floor space to serve as a work area during the day if needed.
The central social room of the apartment combines sofa seating with a dining table large enough for four. Street-facing windows bring in the character of Neustadt and the painted facades opposite.
A properly equipped kitchen with hob, refrigerator, and the tools needed to prepare full meals. Suited to guests who want to cook rather than eat out every night during longer stays.
A clean, functional bathroom with shower, sufficient counter space for two guests sharing, and hotel-grade towels provided and replaced on request for stays of multiple nights.
You arrive to find the key waiting and the lights already on. Neustadt is quieter than the main shopping streets, but the glow from the guild-house facades across the road tells you immediately that you are somewhere with real age and weight to it. You drop your bags, open the windows, and hear the distant sound of the Rhine.
Mornings here have a particular rhythm. There is a bakery a short walk away that opens early, and coffee taken back to the apartment tastes better for the five-minute walk through the old town lanes. The light at this latitude in the morning is sharp and northern — it comes in low and long across the tabletop and the floor. You sit with it for a while before the day starts.
In the afternoon, the city asks to be walked. The Munot tower is fifteen minutes by foot and the view from the top takes in the Rhine bend, the red rooftops, and the first hills of the Randen. The Museum zu Allerheiligen, housed in a former monastery, is the kind of place where you spend longer than intended. For a longer excursion, the Rhine Falls are a short bus or train ride — the largest waterfall in Europe by volume, and genuinely impressive even outside the summer tourist peak.
Evening brings the choice between the apartment kitchen and one of the restaurants that line the old town. The Swiss-German cuisine in this corner of the country leans toward wine-braised meats and fresh bread, and the local Hallauer Blauburgunder is worth ordering wherever you find it. Back at the apartment, the street settles into its quiet, and the Randen ridge sits dark against the sky beyond the rooftops.

Europe's largest waterfall by volume. Impressive year-round, with boat access to the central rock available in warmer months.

12 minutes on foot
A circular Renaissance fortress above the old town with panoramic views over the Rhine bend and Schaffhausen's rooftops.

4 minutes on foot
The social centre of Schaffhausen old town, with a weekly market, painted fountain, and surrounding cafes and wine bars.

20 minutes by car
One of Switzerland's best-preserved medieval towns, with fresco-covered facades lining the Rathausplatz and Rhine boat tours.
Before the tourist coaches arrive, Schaffhausen's painted guild-house facades belong entirely to the residents. A route from Neustadt through Fronwagplatz, past the Minster, and up to the Munot takes less than an hour and covers a thousand years of Rhine-city history.
Most visitors see the Rhine Falls in August, when the water is loudest and the crowds thickest. Spring snowmelt and the quieter weeks of November each offer a different version of Europe's largest waterfall — and a far more considered experience of the surrounding landscape.
The Randen is the low sandstone ridge that gives this apartment its name. The walking trails through its beech forests lead eventually to the wine village of Hallau, where Blauburgunder grown on schist soils produces one of German-speaking Switzerland's most interesting red wines.
